Barbara J. White
Poughkeepsie - Barbara J. White (nee Powers), 77, a longtime Poughkeepsie resident passed away Friday, March 24, 2017, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center after a brief illness.
Barbara was the administrative assistant to the City of Newburgh police chief and retired in 2001.
Born July 20, 1939, in Mount Vernon, NY, she was the daughter of Harold and Hilma (Karppinen) Powers. Barbara moved to Fishkill, NY, in 1977 to raise her three children. Barbara worked tirelessly to provide her children with a wonderful life.
Barbara was an avid reader and had an undying love for soccer. She was introduced to the sport by her grandchildren and very quickly developed a passion for the game. Some of her greatest moments were attending travel and high school games. She loved many professional teams and followed games daily. She was an ardent animal lover and supported as many animal organizations as possible. Barbara enjoyed trips to the Caribbean and lying in the warm sun.
Barbara will be forever missed by her surviving family members, Wendy McClenahan and her husband, Seth, of Rhinebeck, and Lori White of Portland, OR; and three grandchildren, Seth and Samantha McClenahan, and Maxwell Jablons of La Porte, IN.
She was predeceased in 1994 by her son, Robert "Robbie" White.
A graveside remembrance will be held Friday, March 31, at 11 a.m., at the Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
