Evelyne F. Burns
Rhinebeck - Evelyne F. Burns of Rhinebeck, passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 at home. At the time of her passing she was surrounded by her family.
Born August 5th in New York City, she was the daughter of the late William and Mabel (Hull) O'Rourke. She attended and graduated from Staatsburg Union Free School and later worked for many years as a telephone operator for Bel-Tel in Yonkers and Ossining, NY.
On June 23, 1943 in New York City she married Stephen James Burns. Mr. Burns predeceased Evelyne on July 24, 1997.
Evelyne was a member of the Bel-Tel Retiree Pioneers and volunteered for several years at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck. She was a member of the Church of the Messiah, enjoyed gardening, watching the birds in her yard, her many pets and visiting with family.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia Risley and her husband Richard of Rhinebeck; a sister Ruth Vaughan; nieces and nephews, Deborah Berry, Edward Vaughan and his wife Patricia, James White and his wife Carol, Annmarie Kirschenheiter and her husband Frank, Jeanmarie Steward and her husband Dave, Frank O'Kie III and Brian O'Kie; grand nieces and nephews, James, Tricia, Jennifer and David Berry, Leslie, and Matthew Vaughan, Daniel and Kevin White, Thomas and Michael Kirschenheiter, and Sarah, David and Jessica Stewart; and a great grand niece, Sierra Hogan.
She was predeceased by a brother, Frank G. O'Kie II, three sisters, Marion M. O'Kie and Jeanmarie White and Muriel F. 'Anne' O'Malley, a nephew, Will Berry and a grand nephew, William Berry.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 12, 3:00 to 5:00 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St. Rhinebeck. Funeral services will be Monday, 2 PM, at the Church of the Messiah, Rhinebeck. Burial will follow in the Rhinebeck Cemetery.
Memorial donations in honor of Mrs. Burns may be made to Hospice Foundation, Inc.
